Anthony Mizzi

Maltese/Icelandic national, Anthony was born in Malta where he became involved in theatre from a young age and acted in his first short film at the age of 14. Anthony went on to study Liberal Arts at King’s College London where he earned a first-class merit on his thesis on the history of ideas. From there he returned to Malta and went on to accumulate experience working in various technical departments eventually solidifying his position as a script-writer and director. In 2019 Anthony was commissioned to develop a script for the Maltese national Air Malta. This sparked the foundation of Blank Canvas Creatives in 2021. As a nimble team Anthony formed production company Blank Canvas with two other filmmakers who have gone on to produce commercials, documentaries and short films. Over the years Anthony has also developed his repertoire as a storyteller and visual artist having developed projects for fashion designers, musicals and NGOs. Notably, in 2019 Anthony premiered his first documentary for UNHCR on World Refugee Day at the Valletta Film Festival. In 2021 he was the semi-finalist for the televised Social Impact Awards in which he pitched to produce a documentary on a human trafficking story with The Cross Cultural International Foundation. In 2022 and 2023, Anthony was commissioned to write and direct a Documentary on the life of Maltese Author Henry Frendo and subsequently, poet laureate Daniel Massa. Since then he has been touring festivals around the world to pitch and develop his creative documentary on the life of Joseph Calleia whilst completing a Masters in Ethnographic and Documentary film at University College London.
